Introduction to the Education Series

August has been an education filled month for me; From hosting a team of American teachers for a few days to attending a session with the 2015 South Africa-Washington International Program (SAWIP) GP team and Graeme Bloch to the Inspired Teachers Conference hosted by QualityLife Company. With all of this exposure I thought it would only make sense that I spend the next few weeks sharing the knowledge I gained. It has taken me a while to decide how I am going to go about this, because there is so much to share, but after a lot of thought I have decided to use the line up set at the Inspired Teachers Conference as the theme for the blogs going forwards. So let me introduce the great concept that will be forming the basis of this series:

The Inspired Teachers Conference was launched in 2012 by QualityLife Company. The initiative was launched as a response to the need for teachers with a drive to deliver excellence in the classroom. The conference inspires innovation and promotes the sharing of knowledge among teachers from various walks of life. This year’s conference was hosted by Varsity College Sandton with Taryn Henning and Ndabaningi “Zabz” Mabuye as the chairs. We heard talks from  Dr. Chris Emdin (US), Trevor Ncube (SA) and Ruth Everson (SA) on a range of topics. There were also exhibitions from MiniChess and Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) at the conference. (http://inspiredteachers.co.za/ )

The topics I will cover in my series will include the following:

  • Creating the magic: Lessons from Dr Chris Emdin
  • Skills Development in the Constraints of Content
  • Developing Critical Thinking in the Classroom
  • The Power of the Teacher
  • The Tech Monster

I hope to do justice to the content I have and I wish it can assist educators around the world in making their learning spaces as productive as possible.
